The Melvin Garrison 19th Century Philadelphia Black History Curriculum

Welcome!

Our curriculum is available for free to the community through a generous grant from the Philadelphia Funders.

Educators, teachers, parents, guardians and anyone with interest can use this curriculum to learn about 19th Century Black Philadelphia history.

Written by Dr. Stephanie Joy Tisdale, this curriculum uses the Africana studies framework to help students examine and critically reflect on the people, institutions and achievements of Black Philadelphians from 1790 to 1860.
